Create a VoiceThread account or sign in to an exisiting account. Practice commenting on a VoiceThread project. Go to http://voicethread.com/share/352925/ and add your reflection to the quotes presented in the VoiceThread project. Choose your preferred method: webcam, text, voice or upload.


HOW TO MAKE A VOICETHREAD
Step 1 – Pre-plan
What the goal?
Who is the audience?
Who will participate?
Begin research

  • Begin by carefully selecting a topic that will promote conversation and debate between students—and that can be conveyed through images currently available to you. Possible topics include:
    • What can you learn about the values of a country or a culture by studying images?
    • Is Global Warming having an impact on our world?
    • Has urbanization helped or harmed our community?
    • Where can evidence of math be found in our daily lives?
    • Is graffiti a form of artistic expression or simply vandalism?
    • Who are heroes?

Step 2 –Select Docs or Images
BASIC
Use digital photos
Supports PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint files, images and video
NEW: Import photos directly from Flickr search (and creative commons) inside Voicethread.
Hint: Use PowerPoint to make slides and then export as *.jpg or *.pdf (maintains formatting)

Step 3 – Prepare Narration
BASIC
Research
Plan and write out narration
Determine what information will be presented on each slide (either on the slide vs. in the comment area)

Step 4 - Create account

Step 5 - Upload Content
Upload images first
Choose title and description for each slide
Record narration (limited cell phone minutes) or upload audio or video files
Choose sharing options:
Private – view by invitation only
Groups
NEW
  • Public view and access
  • Comments – yes/no
  • Comment moderation - on/off
Share URL or embed in webpage or wiki

Step 6 - Add comments
Use computer microphone, telephone, text, audio file, and webcam.
VoiceThread allows users to create ONE account and have multiple identities, HOWEVER you can't have multiple identities logged in at the same time.
Consider having younger students draw and scan original artwork for avatar
With Doodling, you can draw on top of the media as you record your comment
As of 9/2009: If you are the creator or editor of a VoiceThread you can now reorder the comments by moving your mouse over any comment segment on the timeline beneath the VoiceThread. Just hold down the shift key while over the timeline and then click-drag to move a comment segment to another position.
